Cid Highwind stands at 5'8" with a slim yet muscular build, and blond hair. He is usually seen wearing an aviator jacket with a white scarf of sorts tied around his neck. When he's not wearing his jacket and scarf, you'll see him in a blue t-shirt and green jeans, with his jacket around the waist. He also wears black gloves on his hands, and a pink ribbon can be seen tied around his upper arm, symbolizing the memory of Aerith.

Dog tags hang from his neck and he often wears goggles on his head (though he is rarely seen actually wearing them properly), which have a special container on them for holding cigarettes. More often than not, you'll see a cigarette hanging out of his mouth.

Cid is probably best known and most recognized by his rather heated temper and colorful choice of language. It doesn't take much to make him tick, and he won't hesitate to let you know when he has a problem (which seems to be most of the time). Mostly, Cid is just headstrong, and won't stand for anyone giving him crap.

Cid is also a rather determined individual, intent on reaching his goals, literally being the stars. is determination gives him the rarely seen patience required to determine precise calculations needed for shuttle launches and airship piloting. If it's something he's passionate about, a ton of attention and dedication will be put into the project.

When he has his mind set to something, it's set to do it with precision. This can get a little foggy towards the end of a project, however, and once he sees his goal his work can tend to get a bit sloppy. Some things that need to be double-checked may be overlooked in his excitement of finishing.

Being stubborn, he won't stand for anything to interfere, and getting in the way of his dreams is easily one of the top things on his list of "What Makes Cid Tick". That being said, he's not the most forgiving of individuals. You don't want to be on the recieving end of one of his grudges, and they can last for years.

His southern accent and choice of vocabulary can sometimes mislead you to thinking he's an idiot, but as an airship pilot and mechanic, Cid is also intelligent.

He is also a natural born leader, a great skill to have when leading a team of scientists on a venture into outer space. He's sharp and a quick thinker, able to give orders with authority. Usually he's confident in his projects and doesn't mind taking the role of a leader, but other times its more of a pain in the ass for him.

Underneath it all, Cid does have a shockingly big heart. Though he may not seem happy about it, and may voice his very colorful opinion, he is almost always willing to help a friend in need. If you need a job done, Cid is incredibly reliable. Once you start to get close to him, he may ease up a bit and act a bit more friendly. Still, good friend or not, he won't stand for you stepping on his toes.

Abilities/Strengths: Cid is good in combat, making good use of his lances. His temper can actually be a strong point when fighting an enemy, as it makes him all the more determined to win. He's also intelligent, holding a great deal of knowledge in mechanics and design, aiding him in his talents as an accomplished pilot.

His determination doesn't hurt, either, as he won't let anything get in his way once he has his sights set on something. He's also very reliable, and despite his rather uncouth personality, he does indeed care for his friends. If any of them ever needed his aid, he would give his assistance without hesitation (though not without a piece of his mind first).

Weaknesses: His greatest weakness has to be his shockingly short temper. Friend or foe, if you step on his toes, he won't hesitate to let you have it. Despite having a big heart, it seems as though he does have his priorities out of order on occasion. Friendship and relationships would, logically, be a key value to someone who can be caring, but Cid won't stand for anyone to get in his way. Thus, he can hold ridiculously long grudges, even against those close to him.

Sometimes, his impatience and excitement can get the better of him, and when close to success the time he would normally spend on a project previously is considerably reduced. Even if a concern is voiced, Cid will plough right through. His goals tend to blind him at times, and once his goals are within his reach, he won't let anything stop him.

history.

Cid is an airship pilot we find in a small town called Rocket Town, where he was at one time heading a space program. With proper funding from the ShinRa company, Cid felt confident that he would reach his lifelong dream of becoming the first man in space. Proudly he lead a team of scientists and technicians in preparing the launch, and it was looking promising.

When it came time to launch the shuttle, however, Shera, one of his technicians at the time, ran a last minute check on Oxygen tanks. With Shera in the chamber, going through with the launch would mean taking her life, while cancelling would mean saving her.

Cid, mid-launch, makes the decision of cancelling, sparing her life. However, it wasn't without consequence, as Cid proceeds to hold a grudge against her for many years to come for ruining his lifelong dream. Shera, guilty over the incident, becomes Cid's assistant and helps him out despite his anger towards her.

When Cloud meets Cid in Rocket Town in his search for Sephiroth years after this, the shuttle launch has been abandoned due to lack of funding. Upon Cloud's arrival, Cid is waiting for a visit from the president, feeling hopeful that the funding will be re-issued so he can continue pursuing his dream. However, disappointment strikes and anger flares when the president pushing aside Cid's request and asks for the Tiny Bronco, one of Cid's planes that he keeps in his backyard.

Cid, bitter, betrays ShinRa and joins Cloud in a fight against Palmer, a clear act of defiance against the company. After he is defeated, Cid joins Cloud in escaping by using the plane. The plane is badly damaged in the endeavor, and from that point on it can only be used as a sort of boat on shallow water. After failing to acquire the Tiny Bronco, President Rufus ShinRa takes control of the airship Highwind in his search for Sephiroth. Highwind was designed and built by Cid, and was confiscated by the ShinRa company after the first failed launch.

After this, Cid joins them on their hunt, following them around the world and helping out with his skills as an airpilot and as a fighter.

Later, after Sephiroth summons Meteor, Cloud is thrust into the lifestream. During the time that Cloud is incapable of travelling with them, Cid takes control of the party, becoming a temporary leader. Cid is also able to regain his beloved airship, Highwind, during a rescue mission to save Tifa and Barret from execution.

Also, Cid's lifelong dream of heading into orbit is fulfilled when the group attempts to stop ShinRa destroying Meteor by putting the Huge Materia into Cid's rocket. Thus, the accomplishment is bitter sweet, as while he achieved his dream of entering space, the ship is assigned on direct route to collide with Meteor, causing an explosion. It seems as though Shera's suspicions about the oxygen tanks were correct, and when they do manage to escape and safely make it back to earth, Cid is able to forgive her.

Cid also joins Cloud and the party when they enter Northern Crater for the final battle with Sephiroth, where together they defeat him.

Later, Cid marries Shera, and replaces the Highwind with a new airship named after her. This airship is seen when Cid shows up to help the gang out when battling Bahamut, making use of his lance skills once more to aid Cloud in defeating the menace. Cid and the others are all seen on the airship, watching as Cloud battles Sephiroth once more.
